Maruti Suzuki India Limited has unveiled the much anticipated Ciaz Concept Sedan in the Auto Expo as declared. MILEAGEThere are speculations going around in the automobile market that the petrol version of this Maruti Ciaz may be powered by either a 1.6-litre VVT petrol engine or the 1.4-litre, K-Series mill, which is currently powering the Ertiga MPV. This variable valve timing based 1.6-litre petrol mill has the ability to give away a mileage in the range of 15 to 16 Kmpl , while the K-Series engine can generate a decent 17 to 18 Kmpl. On the other hand, the diesel version of this upcoming sedan is most likely to get 1.3-litre DDiS diesel mill that comes with direct fuel injection system. This engine has the ability to produce 21 to 23 Kmpl of mileage , which is quite good.

ENGINE AND PERFORMANCEIt is speculated that the upcoming Maruti Ciaz will be introduced with either a 1.6-litre VVT petrol or 1.4-litre K-Series petrol engine along with a 1.3-litre diesel motor as well. The 1.4-litre K-Series engine comprises of 4-cylinders, 16-valves and makes a total displacement capacity of 1373cc . This engine is capable of churning out 93.7Bhp at 6000rpm, while yielding 130Nm of commanding torque at 4000rpm. On the other hand, the 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre K-Series engine comes with a total 1586cc displacement capacity. This engine is based on DOHC valve configuration and it comes incorporated with MPFI fuel supply system. This power plant can churn out 103.3Bhp of maximum power at 5600rpm, while generating 145Nm of peak torque at 4100rpm. The diesel version of Ciaz is expected with a 1.3-litre DDiS engine with a displacement capacity of 1248cc. The company engineered this engine with 4-cylinders, 16-valves and incorporated with direct injection system, which allows it to churn out 88.8Bhp of maximum power at 4000rpm, while producing 200Nm of peak torque at just 1750rpm. All these petrol and diesel engines are expected to be mated with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that sends the torque output to the front wheels.

Power:
The company has not disclosed anything regarding the technicalities or specifications of this upcoming sedan. However, as per the speculations, this four wheeler is expected to be launched with both petrol and diesel engine options. The diesel version is expected to be equipped with a 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder engine that can churn out a maximum power of 88.8bhp at 4000rpm, while generating a peak torque of 200Nm at 1750rpm. The company is most likely to offer the petrol version of this Ciaz sedan with a 1.4-litre K-series petrol mill considering its fuel efficiency and performance. This engine can churn out a maximum power of about 93.7Bhp at 6000rpm, while generating 130Nm of peak torque output at 4000rpm . This four wheeler is also expected to get a 1.6-litre VVT petrol engine option, which is currently under the hood of SX4 sedan. This power plant can produce 103.3Bhp at 5600rpm, while generating 145Nm of commanding torque at 4100rpm.

Acceleration:
The K-series, 1.4-litre petrol engine is coupled with a 5-speed manual transmission gearbox that allows it to reach a top speed in the range of 145 to 155 Kmph. At the same time it can break the 100 Kmph speed barrier in just 13 to 14 seconds. On the other hand, the 1.3-litre, 4-cylinder diesel mill takes about 15 to 16 seconds to breach the 100 Kmph mark and it can go up to a maximum speed of about 155 Kmph. As far as the 4-cylinder, 1.6-litre, VVT petrol engine is concerned, it comes with an ability to reach a maximum speed in the range of 170 to 175 Kmph, while taking only 12.1 seconds to reach 100 Kmph mark from a standstill.

Toyota, the Japanese carmaker, today unveiled the updated Camry at the 2014 Moscow International Motor Show. While the most important change in the new model is the addition of a new engine, it also receives new features and cosmetic updates.

The refreshed model features a new large lower grille, which tends to remind one of the Corolla. The upper grille, however, is relatively thinner. The front fascia also gets new LED-infused head-lights, large air intakes and chrome-surrounded rectangular shaped fog-lamps. Then there is also the updated bumper and a slim chrome strip running across the width of the car. Though the side profile of the car remains largely similar, the newly designed alloy wheels add to its sporty appeal.

The cabin also receives a handful of updates, like a new multi-functional steering wheel, a 4.2-inch colour TFT display, a new backlit instrument cluster, wireless mobile charger, automatic beams, a new infotainment system and heated rear seats among others.

Honda Cars India is presently planning the launch of the all new Jazz in India. The car is expected to go on sale within this financial year, most probably towards the end of this year or early next year. For the Indian car market, Honda would power the new Jazz with the 1.5 liter i-VTEC petrol and 1.5-liter diesel engines for superb mileage.

The very popular Toyota Innova MPV is now being worked on full speed by Toyota and the vehicle’s test prototype models have also been spied on several times both in India as well as on the roads of Thailand. It is now being said that the all new Toyota Innova might be introduced to the various car markets by the year 2016, while the actual market launch is expected to happen in early 2016. However going by the fast forward actions of some auto makers, Toyota too might speed up the process of bringing in the all new Innova, especially in India where the market competition will further increase within a couple of years.

While speaking to the media, the president of Toyota Motor Philippines Corp. Mr Michinobu Sugata, revealed that the company is contemplating to invest around a hefty 2 billion pesos to increase the parts localization of the new Innova. About 50 percent of this huge investment will be used in increasing the localization of the pressed parts now. Currently even the pressed body parts of the Innova MPV are being imported from Thailand, while Toyota is planning on increasing the localization to more than 30 percent for the upcoming version of the vehicle.

It is speculated that apart from completely overhauled exterior and interior designs, the all new Innova will be also housing Toyota’s newly developed range of diesel engines. Apart from this, Toyota is also expected add an automatic transmission gearbox on the diesel variants of the next-gen Innova.

So far the undisputed ruler of the Indian MPV segment The Toyota Innova is getting tough competition from the Maruti Ertiga compact MPV, Honda Mobilio Nissan Evalia and Chevrolet Enjoy. The next-gen Innova is expected to be priced at Rs. 9 lakh to Rs. 15 lakh.

Volkswagen has established a newdiesel engine assembly line and full-fledged engine testing facility at its plant located in Chakan, Pune. Volkswagen India has invested 30 million Euro (INR 240 crore) in this first step of engine assembly and production of parts and components at suppliers in India. The company said that the assembly of the new 1.5 litre TDI diesel engine which was designed specifically for the Indian market would commence at the end of 2014.

The company has been working at increasing the level of localisation of models produced at the Pune plant.

Mahesh Kodumudi, Group Chief Representative, Volkswagen Group India and President and Managing Director, Volkswagen India Private Limited said: “Our investment in this state-of-the-art engine assembly line which incorporates a sophisticated and full-fledged engine testing facility at our Pune Plant in Chakan is the next important step in strengthening our commitment towards India. .With this, we take a significant leap towards enhancing our localisation in India.”
The new line can assemble over 98,000 engines in a three-shift-system at full capacity. The locally assembled engine will be used in the recently launched new Polo and the Polo GT TDI.
With an initial investment of 580 million Euro and an additional investment of 100 million Euro, the Pune plant is the single largest investment of a German company in India so far.
The facility houses the entire automotive production process, from the press shop, body shop, paint shop and assembly along with an in-house R&D facility.
